A Study on development of a card-approving systems using unix

Abstract
In spite of high expenses of developing cost and operating cost, most existing card-approving systems are adopting reliable IBM mainframe or Tandem structures in order to process the systems in reliability. However, abrupt increasing in the number of customers and the occurrences of transaction processing make the costs of expansion and maintenance increase together that burdens the companies¡¯ costs. Using Unix systems can relatively reduce a great amount of the costs in setup and expansion of systems, but because of security risks due to Unix systems¡¯ open system architecture mainframe-level systems are being used in most cases even if they cost much. This study presents a low cost and high efficient card-approving system. which can process card approval transactions safely using Unix. The duplex design of 3-tier structure compensates weaknesses of Unix systems.
